Expect the list of Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) targets to grow throughout the rest of the year. That's the message I received while covering the Practicing Physicians Advisory Council (PPAC) quarterly meeting on Monday.

You may never have gotten a records request from CMS for its Comprehensive Error Rate Test (CERT) report, but you probably will in the future. CERT's back and the program's scope has been expanded. I spoke to a CMS official who assured me that the skipped mid-year report didn't mean that CERT was "on hold." The program "has never been on hold," she said.

More audit targets have been released by a Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) - specifically, two DME issues by Connolly Healthcare, the Region C RAC. A total of 15 states are affected (see below).

Doctors who provide DME to their patients through consignment closets or stock and bill arrangements are facing a tough choice: Enroll as a DME supplier or get rid of the DME.

Sen. Edward Kennedy - a champion of health care reform and chairman of the Senate's Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee - died at age 77 this morning.
