CMS sets start date for the new clinical lab payment system

Here's some good news for labs that were dreading the new payment system for clinical diagnostic tests: CMS will delay implementation for one year, according to the final rule. The new fee schedule - which will be based on what labs receive from private payers - will kick in Jan. 1, 2018.

The FDA released a new, streamlined form June 2 with which physicians can get investigational new drugs (INDs) otherwise not cleared for treatment into the hands of their patients. FDA makes no guarantees but says applicants should get their approval within 30 days -- and in some instances may get it immediately.
