Malpractice reform could make a big dent in the cost of health care reform, according to a new report by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Adding a slew of new restrictions on medical malpractice lawsuits could save up to $54 billion over the next 10 years, the CBO said in seven-page letter to Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

Don't use the new never-event modifiers if you don't have to. CMS says the agency has received claims with providers improperly using the new never event modifers -- resulting in unnecessary denials.
