Two medical centers in Massachusetts will pay more than $700,000 to settle allegations that they upcoded claims when they failed to follow the rules for new and established patients.
Once upon a time, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued an annual Work Plan. More recently, the agency has issued a Work Plan and an update a few months later. On June 15, the OIG announced it will issue monthly updates to its Work Plan to-do list.
Starting Oct. 1, you’ll be able to select a specific ICD-10-CM code when a patient is in remission from abuse of each of a variety of substances, including alcohol, opioids, cannabis and nicotine.

The American Medical Association wants to widen the 60-day window within which physicians can be replaced by locum tenens equivalents. But a locum expert says CMS is unlikely to go for it.

Good news: A CMS source tells Part B News that the recent eClinicalWorks (ECW) settlement won't lead to blanket incentive payment takebacks or worse, as some providers had worried.
