I don't want to wade into the waters of political debate too deeply here, but Medicare already has end-of-life planning. This might be news to some, but end-of-life planning was added to the "Welcome to Medicare" visit - yes, the preventive care service welcoming patients to the Medicare program - this year (we started writing about it last summer).

CMS released this article on using its Internet-based Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS). Here's the biggest takeaway from the article - 10 items you'll need by your side when enrolling a provider:

Most states will allow you to charge patients for making copies of their patient records. This recently came to light during a discussion on the Part B News listserv. The Law Offices of Thomas J. Lamb, P.A. in Wilmington, N.C., posted a website listing state laws regarding what providers can charge patients.

The HHS Office of Inspector General isn't thrilled by the fact that your carriers can't track services that are billed incident-to. CMS isn't thrilled by one of OIG's proposed solutions.
