A CMS transmittal on “Medical Review Timeliness Requirement” effective Feb. 19, 2013, will mean longer waits for decisions on claims sent to integrity contractors. Also, CMS distributed an MLN Matters Article announcing an enhancement is being performed by Viable Information Processing Systems (ViPS) on the Medicare Remit Easy Print (MREP), the program used to view and print HIPAA-compliant Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).

Rep. Phil Roe, M.D., R-Tenn., introduced a bill in the House (H.R. 351) to eliminate the independent payment advisory board, or IPAB, and the legislation has gained the AMA’s support.
 
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced today it had approved or conditionally approved a total of 19 states and the District of Columbia for health insurance exchanges. More may be on the way.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is reviewing whether software functions that lead to cloned notes “should be off limits.”

HHS National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Farzad Mostashari told the Center for Public Integrity that a “policy-setting committee of experts” will “examine the issue and make recommendations on how to address it.”
