Health reform discussions falling apart

The Washington-based Politico reports health reform negotiations with moderate and conservative Democrats in the House of Representatives broke down Friday afternoon. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calf.), who supports the current House reform bill, says he may bypass his own committee and let the legislation go before the full House.

Politico writes:

Arkansas Rep. Mike Ross, the top negotiator for conservative Democrats in the 52-member Blue Dog Coalition, told reporters Friday that the negotiations "pretty much fell apart this afternoon."

Earlier this week, it appeared the House was closer to striking an agreement with moderates than the Senate. Now, it appears both houses of Congress may not pass a health system reform bill by the lawmakers' Aug. 7 recess.
