CMS makes new Provider Relief Fund payments available, gives late reporters a break

If you need more money to cover your COVID-19-related practice revenue shortfalls since July 1, good news -- CMS is giving you another chance.

On Sept. 10, HHS and HRSA announced $25.5 million in new Provider Relief Fund (PRF) payments, including $8.5 for rural providers and $17 billion for the fourth PRF reporting period -- that is, “Phase 4," which runs from July 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2021.

HHS says applications will open at the PRF portal -- found at https://prfreporting.hrsa.gov/s/ -- on Sept. 29, 2021, and the agency will “reimburse a higher percentage of lost revenues and expenses for smaller providers as compared to larger providers.”

HHS also announced a 30-day grace period on collection and enforcement of Phase 1 payments owed to the agency on Sept. 30, 2021 (though the original deadlines remain), and unveiled a web page explaining their Phase 3 payment calculations and outlining a “reconsideration” (appeal) process.
