AHRQ offers free forms to get patients to write down their questions

We're always happy to wind up on the same wavelength as AHRQ (HHS' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality), especially when it comes to hot ideas for improving patient care.

In the Patient Involvement section of its website, AHRQ has posted a "My Questions for This Visit" form that practices can hand out in the waiting room.

This is a great way to get patients focused before they enter the exam room, and avoid that familiar medical "esprit de l'escalier" in which patients only remember what they meant to ask about after they've left the office.

And spare your printer ink: AHRQ is offering up to 500 copies of the list with free shipping while supplies last. Call 1-800-358-9295 or email AHRQPubs@ahrq.hhs.gov -- and use promo code 44.

This has been a hot topic in health circles, especially since the recent publication of a study that found doctors interrupting the patient's recitation of concerns after just 11 seconds. In fact, Part B News did a story on how to make sure patients' concerns get heard on August 13 (subscription).
