Slavitt: 3 reasons the election won't change the quality payment program

Andy Slavitt, the acting administrator for CMS, noted that he is receiving a lot of questions about how the election will impact the quality payment program during a CMS call on the final rule for the quality payment program, Nov. 15.

Based one "everything that I know and have seen and heard – there really is no change," Slavitt outlined three reasons he thought this was the case:
1. The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), the legislation that contained the new quality program, had very strong bipartisan support.
2. The law shares the aims people have expressed about creating a system that works better for patients and providers.
3. "MACRA didn't appear out of nowhere. It replaced the sustainable growth rate," and no one wants to go back to the SGR, Slavitt said.
