Your office staff and other third parties will now be permitted by CMS to file enrollment applications online on behalf of Medicare providers (PBN 3/16/09). The reversal in policy could boost utilization for online enrollment amid widespread complaints that physicians themselves do not typically fill out the application. The Internet-based Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) processed about 1,500 applications so far, CMS says.
