Question: We have a physician whose license is temporarily suspended due to pending criminal assault charges that, while not optimal, are not directly related to the practice of medicine. Plus, he hasn’t been convicted. Do we have to keep him on staff? And if we do and the suspension is lifted, what are our options then?

Don’t assume your denial rate for claims with modifier 25 (Significant, separately identifiable evaluation and management [E/M] service by the same physician or other qualified health care professional on the same day of a procedure or other service) went down if you reported fewer claims with the modifier.
