CMS holding all January claims

You aren't alone if you thought your bank accounts were a little bit smaller in the New Year thanks to dwindling reimburesement checks. CMS is holding all 2012 claims for 10 days, the agency reports in a Jan. 5 e-newsletter article.

That means you will not get paid for claims submitted after Jan. 1 until Jan. 18 at the earliest. CMS is holding all claims with a date of service of Jan. 1 or later for up to 10 business days in order to test and implement the 2012 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, CMS announced in an MLN Matters e-newsletter article.

NOTE: This update includes CMS accounting for the new $34.0376 conversion factor in effect until Feb. 29 unless Congress passes a permanent fee fix (PBN 1/2/12). Important: CMS is not holding claims with dates of service prior to Jan. 1 regardless of whether claims were submitted after the first of the year. NOTE: Your Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) will post new rates on its website by Jan. 11, CMS says.
