Providers will see a 3.4% pay increase when performing chronic care management (CCM) services next year, according to payment data contained in the proposed 2017 Medicare physician fee schedule released July 7.
Providers also will gain a reimbursement channel for "complex" CCM through the activation of two current CPT codes, with payment starting at $92.66 per episode of care, according to the proposed rule.
CCM code 99490 requires 20 minutes of care management per month, while complex CCM code 99487 pays more but adheres to CPT requirements that demand 60 minutes of care.
CPT code 99489 is an add-on code to 99487 and is projected to pay an extra $47 for each 30-minute increment that goes beyond the initial 60 minutes.
