We take a sneak peak at CPT 2011
We unwrapped our CPT 2011 manual today. Here's a sneak peek at a few of the changes we found. We'll provide complete details in upcoming issues of your newsletter.
E/M Codes:
Office and inpatient consults are still in the CPT manual.
CPT 2011 also adds codes for subsequent observation care (99224 - 99226) to allow reporting of observation care after the first day.
Wound Care:
There are a number of new and revised debridement codes. The instructions now specify you'll code based on the size and depth of the wound.
Cardiovascular:
There are 16 new codes for open or percutaneous endovascular revascularization, which will totally change the way practices code peripheral vascular intervention. Example: With the new codes, you'll report just one code for each vascular family for each vessel treated.
Nerve blocks:
The instructions for 64479 - 64484 and 64490 - 64495 now state that imaging guidance (fluro or CT) and contrast are inclusive components of the procedures.
Medicine:
CPT 2011 added two new vaccine administration codes for staged vaccinations in children through age 18 (90460 - 90461), plus a new H1N1 immunization admin code, 90470.
93224 (Holter monitor) has been revised and now allows recording for up to 48 hours. Codes 93230 - 93237 have been deleted.
Modifiers:
CPT 2011 tweaks the definition of a few modifiers. Example: Modifiers 76 and 78 now specifically state you should not append the modifier to an E/M service.
