The trickle of new Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) targets continues, with Region D's HealthDataInsights (HDI) pumping out a single new issue yesterday.
The new issue primarily affects DME providers, particularly orthopedic practices. It is:
- Knee orthotic bundling: Some knee orthotic addition codes cannot be billed separately because of bundling or medical necessity when billed with a specific knee orthotic base code
As usual, we've updated our popular online RAC Target Alerts, which you can access by visiting our PBN Library and clicking the appropriate download link for the latest edition of the Alerts.
Just a reminder, Region D is the biggest geographical RAC region, spanning the entire West Coast and much of the Midwest. It includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Washington state, Wyoming and Utah.
If you're ever confused about your RAC region or how to get in touch with your RAC -- including its medical director -- check out our 2009 RAC Survival Toolkit. It's got pretty much everything you need to know about RACs, from contact information for key RAC officials to a complete appeals guide and a primer on how RACs work and choose targets.
