Longtime watchers of Medicare’s Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) were shocked to see a note recently on
the CMS website that Medicare’s long-time CCI contractor, Carmel, Ind.-based
Correct Coding Solutions LLC, is taking itself out of the claims-processing software business.
As of Feb. 1, the new CCI contractor is
Capitol Bridge LLC, based in Arlington, Va., though it will apparently take more than a month to complete the transition. A note on the CMS website directs interested parties to continue to correspond with Correct Coding Solutions until March 14.
The transition period began on Feb. 3 and will be completed on March 15, after which time “the incumbent contractor … and its principals will be retiring,” presumably to a beach far from Carmel, Ind.
Correct Coding Solutions (CCI) originated the CCI code pairs claims processing software in 1996 and has been updating the code pair lists quarterly ever since, as well as Medicare’s medically unlikely edits (MUEs) and the CCI Coding Policy Manual.
