MIPS pour moi? CMS posts specialty-specific tip sheets for anesthesia providers, orthos and more

by Julia Kyles, CPC on Sep 14, 2017
Still need help selecting measures for the inaugural year of the merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS)? You're in luck if you're an anesthesia provider, emergency medicine specialist, ophthalmologist or orthopedist.

CMS posted MIPS measures for these specialties on Sept. 12. Each guideline explains how MIPS is scored and contains suggested quality and improvement activities for the specialty. Finally, there's a summary of the advancing care information branch of MIPS.

The new tip sheets join guidance for cardiologists and primary care clinicians. But one thing the new guidelines don't convey is how soon providers need to start their MIPS reporting if they haven't already done so. Oct. 2 is the last day to start if you want to avoid the MIPS penalty that will be applied in 2019.
