Will next year's MIPS rule impact your ACI reporting this year?

by Julia Kyles, CPC on Aug 7, 2017
There's a lot going on in CMS' proposed rule for year two of the quality payment program (QPP), so you may have overlooked three changes to the advacing care information (ACI) category -- formerly known as meaningful use -- that would impact this year's ACI efforts.

Jeanne Chamberlin outlined them in her presentation for her upcoming webinar on the proposed rule:
  • Include Exclusion for 2 Base Score Measures
– Eprescribing: excluded if < 100 prescriptions
– Health Info Exch: excluded if < 100 referrals or transfers out
  • New Ambulatory Surgery‐Based designation
– If > 75% of Medicare covered services are in POS 24, excluded from ACI & Quality score reweighted to 85%
  • Deadline for Hardship Exemption moved up to December 31, 2017.
That's three of the dozens of proposed changes to the merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS), including advanced alternative payment models, that Chamberlin identified in the proposed rule. Comments on the rule are due Aug. 21.

Chamberlin will walk attendees through the potential changes. She'll offer guidance for how to finish up the first year of QPP and prepare for QPP year two and answer questions during Next steps for MIPS: Prepare for changes and beat the 5% pay cut on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2-3 p.m. ET. This webinar has been awarded 1 AAPC and 1 BMSC CEU.
