OIG makes it easy to see what's on its mind with monthly Work Plan updates

Once upon a time, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued an annual Work Plan. More recently, the agency has issued a Work Plan and an update a few months later. On June 15, the OIG announced it will issue monthly updates to its Work Plan to-do list.
The Office of Inspector General's (OIG) work planning process is dynamic and adjustments are made throughout the year to meet priorities and to anticipate and respond to emerging issues with the resources available. Previously, OIG updated its public-facing Work Plan to reflect those adjustments once or twice each year. In order to enhance transparency around OIG's continuous work planning efforts, effective June 15, 2017, OIG will update its Work Plan website monthly.
The agency posted 17 new items, which include a data brief on the excessive use of opioids in Medicare Part D and a look how CMS handled the quality payment program to gague its preparedness for the shift from quantity- to quality-based reimbursement.

In addition, there is a sortable and searchable list of all active Work Plan items that will make it easy for compliance officers to track items and determine where they should focus their internal review efforts.
