You have until Dec. 7 to dispute physician quality reporting and value-based modifier pay cuts. As Part B News has reported, the requests should be detailed because this is a provider or practice's only chance to convince CMS to take a second look at its decision. However, a subscriber noted that there is a character limit for the narratives that can be submitted with the requests and asked if there were any work-arounds. As it turns out, there are.
For the value-based modifier review request, you may submit multiple reasons for the request. Instructions for doing so start on p.16 of the reference guide for submitting an informal review request.
The physician quality reporting system (PQRS) informal review is another matter. You have 2,000 characters to make the case for the doctor or non-physician pratictioner. Keep in mind that 2,000 characters is a decent amount of room. This blog post is about 1,500 characters including spaces. In addition, you must to submit one review request per provider who is facing the 2% cut for the quality reporting review. You also can use links to pictures and documents, said Jennifer Searfoss, Esq., CPOM, CHCI, CMCS, founder of Ashburn, Va.-based SCG Health, in response to our question about a work-around. You can use an application like Goggle Drive to post a Word document, create a shareable link to the document and post that with your request.
