National Government Services has made it a bit easier to report trigger points injections. A February update to its pain management LCD adds 17 codes to the list of diagnosis codes that support medical necessity.
According to the revision history for
LCD L33622, the new codes were added in response to a provider's request. Previously, NGS listed
M60.9 (Myositis, unspecified) and
M79.1 (Myalgia) as supporting medical necessity. The additional codes are listed below. Good news if you received a denial when you reported a trigger point with one of these codes - the change is retroactive to Oct. 1, 2015.
