Dodgy edit spurs drug screen claims hold

Proving that there's always room for more confusion where drug screen billing and coding is concerned, CMS today announced that it is putting a hold on drug screen claims (G0477-G0483).

 

Thanks to system errors, you won't get paid for these services before April 4. And if you submit a drug screen on a claim with other services, your payment for the entire claim will be in Limbo until April. CMS recommends removing drug screens from your claims. "When the system is updated in April, you can submit an adjustment claim to add these HCPCS codes," CMS says in the notice.
