Billing update: At-home colorectal cancer screening test gets new code in 2016

Make sure your billing staff is aware of a code revision for the Cologuard screening test, which previously was reported with HCPCS code G0464.

 

Effective Jan. 1, practices are instructed to submit the Cologuard test with CPT code 81528, according to MLN Matters article #9115, revised Jan. 5 to reflect the coding change.

 

Other billing parameters for the Cologuard test stay the same. For instance, you'll still need to stick to the guidelines of the national coverage determination, which state that you should provide the test to "average risk" patients.
