Some MACs announce 14 day claims hold in 2016 (Updated)

by Roy Edroso on Dec 28, 2015

Two  Three MACs serving 13 16 states, citing "technical errors discovered after publication of the MPFS rule," announce they're holding Part B claims for 14 days in early January. (See Update.)

Cahaba (serving Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama) and National Government Services aka NGS (serving Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York and the New England states) posted a "Holding of 2016 Date-of-Service Claims for Services Paid Under the 2016 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule" notice Dec. 28.

The notice says that "to implement corrections to technical errors discovered after publication of the MPFS rule and process claims correctly, Medicare administrative contractors will hold claims containing 2016 services paid under the MPFS for up to 14 calendar days, (i.e., Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, through Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016)."

Despite the plural of "contractors," no other MACs have posted a similar notice, and CMS has released no transmittal announcing a systemwide hold, but readers in other jurisdictions are advised to check their own MACs.

UPDATE 5:15 pm: Palmetto has also posted the notice.
