A podiatrist will spend 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to billing insurers for services allegedly provided simultaneously in California and Pennsylvania.
According to travel and financial records that the
U.S. Attorney’s Office in middle Pennsylvania examined, Dr. Michael Karason was in California when he billed for services allegedly provided in his Keystone State offices. The services were not provided or provided by an unlicensed office manager, the U.S. Attorney’s Office states.
Karason also has to pay more than $118,000 in restitution to Medicare, Capital Blue Cross and Highmark. He has to serve a three-year term of supervised release after completing his prison time.
