Rep. Phil Roe, M.D., R-Tenn., introduced a bill in the House (H.R. 351) to eliminate the independent payment advisory board, or IPAB, and the legislation has gained the AMA’s support. The IPAB, created by the Affordable Care Act, would make recommendations to cut Medicare spending that would take effect unless Congress stops them. “IPAB is a panel that would have too little accountability and the power to make indiscriminate cuts that adversely affect access to health care for patients,” the AMA says in a press release.
