CMS will keep using 4010 format for remittance advice after July 1

by Danielle Cralle on Jun 12, 2012

CMS has announced that your remittance advice will continue in 4010 format for at least another 30 days due to processing issues with the 5010 version of these transactions.

CMS will soon issue more information on the final cutoff date, according to the announcement.

This doesn’t change the fact that Medicare’s claims processing system will reject any electronic claims you submit in Version 4010 after close of business on June 29. As of that date, agencies may only use ASC X12 Version 5010 or NCPDP Telecom D.0 (NCPDP D.0).

If you aren’t prepared for the transition, contact your software vendor or clearinghouse immediately to implement a transition plan.

The full CMS announcement will be archived here.
