CMS nixes diagnostic specialty code

CMS unassigned specialty code “95” from indicating advanced diagnostic imaging accreditation and designated the code as “open” starting April 1, according to CMS Transmittal 2248 released June 24.

The original transmittal released on April 12 (Transmittal 2192) has been rescinded and replaced by Transmittal 2248 eliminating specialty code 95.

Additionally, the change has a retroactive implementation date of April 4.

NOTE: This change will only affect multi-carrier systems, CMS writes in the transmittal and PECOS will no longer recognize specialty code 95.
