You probably won’t be shocked to learn that a
recent Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) survey shows physician practice ICD-10 readiness is low, as reported by
Fierce IT.
It seems as though just about every stakeholder needed to effectuate the transition is behind. But because it’s ultimately the physician groups who will face the potential loss of productivity or revenue, there is particular worry about the preparation of partners.
MGMA President and CEO Susan Turney, M.D., called on vendors, clearinghouses and insurance plans to immediately release their implementation and testing schedules in a statement accompanying the release of the association’s data.
Some data points worth mentioning:
-
About 52% of practices had not heard from their practice management vendor on when software changes would be available; 50% had not heard from their electronic health records (EHR) vendors.
-
Less than 6% are testing internal software.
-
Nearly 60% lack confidence in insurance plan readiness.
-
More than 85% have concerns with productivity lags and costs of implementation.
