Information continues to dribble out of CMS about the much-anticipated administrative claims-based reporting system, in which the federal agency – for this year only – will report your physician quality reporting system (PQRS) measures for you.

This is important because if you’re eligible to report PQRS in 2013 and you don’t do it, your Medicare fees will be trimmed by 1.5% in 2015.

On a June 5 provider call, CMS officials explained that you’ll sign up for CMS to report your PQRS measures through the new Physician Value-Physician Quality Reporting System (PV-PQRS) registration system, which will be open for business starting July 15, 2013 and ending Oct. 15, 2013.

To do that, though, you’ll need to have an active IACS account (that’s Individuals Authorized Access to the CMS Computer Services). CMS officials suggested that providers get started on that project soon, so you’ll be all set to sign up for PV-PQRS when the service becomes available.

On the other hand, you can also avoid the 2015 penalty if you simply report one PQRS measure successfully on one claim for one patient. That might be the simpler route.
