Happy birthday to the EHR Incentive Program

by Ben Penn on Jan 30, 2012

CMS’ Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program turned one year old earlier this month, and CMS celebrated the milestone by showing off a few statistics on the success of the program as well as introducing some tools for eligible providers.

Among the stats:

  • Forty-three states started Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.
  • More than 176,000 individuals have registered for either Medicare or Medicaid incentive programs.
  • CMS has paid a combined $2.5 billion in incentive payments to participants, which include eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals.

CMS has also created a beginners’ guide to the Medicare incentive program, available here, more advanced educational materials on the program here and a Youtube channel with provider testimonial videos here.
